Before & After

This home was overgrown and almost impossible to reach with the 37-step staircase having collapsed after decades of neglect. The interior was also in a state of neglect and largely unchanged from its 1980s inception. We wanted to retain its original charm, while making some larger, functional alterations as well as some minor aesthetic ones.

Where the staircase leading to the basement previously was a large rectangular hole (no railing), we installed balusters from the hole/main floor connecting to the upper staircase directly above it.

In the upstairs primary suite, the bathroom was previously open and facing the apex windows. We opted for more privacy than our 80s exhibitionist predecessors by moving the bathroom back and enclosing it in walls with windows at the top to allow for light and exposure of the vaulted ceiling and left the apex windows free to be the bedroom backdrop, with wooded views on all sides, giving the feel of sleeping in a treehouse.
